CNC Machinist/Programmer
Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in close-tolerance, multi-disciplined aerospace environment; machined, fabricated parts and assemblies. 5-10 years of combined trade school, vocational education, work experience, apprenticeship or engineering degree. High energy, well organized, effective communicator (written & oral). Familiarity with Hurco, Mori-Seiki (Fanuc) and/or Giddings & Lewis (Seimens) platforms.
Duties Include:
- Plan and write programs to control contour-path machining of metal parts on machining and turning centers in conversational or off-line environment.
- Analyze drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimensions and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates according to knowledge of machine shop processes and specifications.
- Using customer CAD models or internally developed model:
- Determine reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
- Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines.
- Determine sequence of operations required.
- Prepares geometric layout on paper or using computer-assisted drafting for shop floor use showing location of reference points and direction of cutting paths.
- Write instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine.
- Write program of machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical data base to regulate movement of machine along cutting path.
- Compare code with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions.
- Revise program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
- Observe operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions.
- Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
- Insure that proper tooling is available to manufacture part either by checking existing tool inventory or purchasing from outside vendors.
- Maintain integrity of programs and insures proper back-up procedures are in place.
- Interact with supervisor regarding methods and approach to manufacturing process
